Justice & Solidarity

Grail women express their commitment to justice, solidarity and peace through their daily living and through collective action, including participation in national and international networks.

The Grail produces a 4-page bi-monthly Bulletin - Global Justice Overcoming Poverty - which provides up-to-date information and reflection on trade, human trafficking and ecological justice. Leadership for Women in Papua New Guinea

The involvement of the Australian Grail in Papua New Guinea began with one Grail woman working as a lay missionary in Wewak in the late 1950s.

Through the 1970s when the Grail organised a series of Pacific Summer Schools for young people in the Pacific Island nations, a number of young PNG women began asking for the Grail in their country.

Groups formed and were helped to develop by a number of Australian Grail members. The Grail is now in five provinces of Papua New Guinea. Over the years, Grail women in both countries have formed strong friendships with one another and continue to collaborate in programs of leadership development, deepening spirituality and specific training. Grail women in PNG who have undertaken the Training for Transformation program use their skills to educate local communities about HIV/AIDS and to empower women living in situations of domestic violence.

Trade Agreements

We are intensely aware of how international trade agreements can impact with great injustice on people who have no voice in them, especially those with the least economic and political power.

For this reason, the Grail is represented in the Working Group of the Australian Fair Trade and Investment Network (AFTINET), which comprises community organisations, unions, church groups and individuals who campaign for fair trade based on human rights, labour rights and environmental sustainability.

Ecological Justice

Grail women are concerned about the ecological  crisis threatening our planet today.

We are aligned with and participate in networks such as the Faith Ecology Network (FEN) and Australian Religious Response to Climate Change (ARRCC).  We seek to learn ecological insights from the various faith traditions, from the dialogue between science and religion and to develop a new ethic which promotes a simple lifestyle and sustainable future for all.

A Personal Journal

Buy one – give one free. A project in support of persons in detention.

This 80-page A5 sized journal contains beautiful photographs and inspiring quotations from across cultures and times. Blank pages allow you to write and draw whatever you want.

For every journal sold one copy will be given to an inmate in a correctional centre, or a political or social refugee.

This personal journal is a wonderful gift for yourself and others, and for a person detained purchasing a copy is an expression of solidarity and care.

The journal costs $10 plus postage.

To order copies telephone 02 9955 3053 or email admin@grailaustralia.org.au

The Personal Journal is the work of a group of Sydney Grail women. The project arose from a 2012 Grail seminar led by Grail member – Elizabeth Lee – who was then a prison chaplain at a Sydney remand centre. The seminar highlighted the many needs of inmates, one of which was for writing material. The journal follows the model of the Prison Journal project by Sr Joan Chittister OSB, whereby for every journal purchased by someone on ‘the outside’, one would be donated free to someone on ‘the inside’.

We have been greatly encouraged by the many positive responses to our first journal published in 2013 and the second one in 2015. We are delighted to share the third edition of ‘A Personal Journal’.
